Jim is a graduate of Power Memorial Academy in NYC and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy located in Kings Point with a degree in Marine Engineering. After graduation, Jim sailed on U.S flagged merchant ships and was commissioned in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served 15 years in the Naval Reserve in various engineering roles and achieved rank of Commander. After sailing in the merchant marine, Jim began his 40 year career at the Long Island Lighting Company working in the company’s power plants. He worked in multiple power plants across Queens and Long Island for 27 years, including an assignment to manage operations in eastern Long Island on the electric distribution side of the company. Jim served as Vice President of the power generation business from 2012 through 2023.
He is currently the Chief Operating Officer for National Grid Ventures and continues to manage the fleet of power plants that generate electricity for Long Island in a safe, reliable, profitable, and compliant manner. Jim serves on the Board of Directors for NY Transco, a joint venture between several New York State electric utilities, where he has management oversight responsibilities of a large electric transmission project planned in downstate New York. He also has oversight responsibilities for the operations at National Grid’s largest liquified natural gas plant located in Rhode Island. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of New York, and is also currently the Chair of the Long Island Red Cross board of directors. Jim and his wife Marge reside in Massapequa and have four children and six grandchildren.
